About the event

Join FLUX at the Manchester Science Festival for the debut of our new walkabout stilted performance, Plastic Planet.

Manchester Science Festival returns from Friday 12 – Sunday 21 February 2021 with a packed programme that explores our changing climate and ideas for a better world.

FLUX are thrilled to be collaborating with the University of Salfrod and the University of the Arts London to bring their latest performance to Manchester audiences as part of our recent Josh Award.

The performance will tell the story about the ecological crisis caused by plastic in our waterways and offer ways we, as a community, can take action. Through the creation of a 'Queen of the Sea' stilted walkabout act and a family-friendly workshop which links storytelling, movement and STEM – in this case – with a focus on plastic pollution, circular economy and sustainability. FLUX aims to engage families and discuss the impact that plastic waste has on our environment.

Think the Grecian goddess Amphitrite, turquoise and mystical. However, she will be wearing a cape made from plastic which has found its way into her oceans. This will be a big visual piece, providing lots of photo opportunities for families and inviting them to take part in an education workshop. We are excited to be collaborating with The University of the Arts London and Salford University to design and produce this costume, providing professional work experience to arts under-graduates.
